photographer
For a long time, photography was more a hobby, taking pictures in my spare time and on business trips, making prints in my darkroom (until 2000 that meant my kitchen), selling a few and occasionally doing weddings. I'd followed a slow "wet dry" route to digital, scanning and learning the Photoshop side before getting my first digital camera in 2003. Things changed after I mentioned it on my site's news page (now the blog) and in 2004 my first book was published.
Most of my pictures are available as individual fine art prints (pricing here) I shoot a number of weddings and portraits, and undertake other commissions.

I've now written 5 books, available via this page:
- Step by Step Digital Black and White Photography and was published by Ilex/Thomson in 2004
- Photoshop Blending Modes Cookbook from Ilex/O'Reilly
- Photoshop Fine Art Cookbook early in 2006
- Adobe Lightroom Essentials mid 2007
- Advanced Digital Black and White Photography late 2007
IT consultant
More recently I've been lucky enough to devote my time to photographic work, especially digital asset management and improving clients' Photoshop, Lightroom and iView productivity, and designing web sites.
I've a very wide range of skills and experience, and I'm pretty hot on Excel, databases, OLAP, and system integration. That's because in my murky past are many years as a chartered accountant, then as a financial IT consultant. I stay quiet about those days though - wouldn't want to ruin the image!
